Can Smoking Lead To Impotence? News Male Smokers May Not Want To Hear

If you are a male smoker and wondering if your smoking habit has anything to do with problems you are experiencing "below the equator"; brace yourself for some bad news. Numerous studies show that cigarette smoking does in fact help contribute to Erectile Dysfunction (ED). As a a matter of fact men who smoke have twice as great a risk of ED than non-smokers.

So, just how exactly does smoking contribute to impotence? It is all a matter of blood flow. In order to achieve and maintain an erection one needs a healthy flow of blood to the penis. If there is insufficient blood flow then it is not possible to maintain, or even achieve an erection. This is where smoking rears it's ugly head. One of the effects nicotine has on the body is constriction of blood vessels. This constriction slows the flow of blood throughout the body; including the flow of blood to the penis. Smoking damages the vessels and capillaries that feed blood throughout the body. Even worse, log term smoking can cause permanent damage to the blood system and hardening of the arteries. The smaller and more delicate penile arteries are typically the first arteries damages by long-term smoking.

And this isn't a problem reserved for older men. The damages to sexual performance caused by smoking can even effect younger men. The more that younger men smoke, the greater the chance that they will experience ED now and in the future. Younger men experiencing "equipment failure" may be surprised to find out their problems are caused by their smoking habit.

It is important to know that there are several factors that can lead to Erectile Dysfunction. But it is generally accepted throughout the medical community that an overall healthy lifestyle can lead to improved erections. A healthy lifestyle is a non-smoking lifestyle. Quitting smoking now can immediately start improving blood flow and improve your ability to achieve an erection. Many male smokers have reported that their ED issues were completely reversed once they quit smoking.

So there you have it; smoking does in fact lead to impotence. But the good news is that you have the ability to improve your sex life by living a healthier lifestyle by quitting smoking. If you needed one more reason to quit smoking, this might be the one that helps you to finally get serious about quitting smoking.

Never...NEVER!!! Stop Trying to Quit Smoking

“The power to hold on in spite of everything, the power to endure—this is the winner's quality. Persistence is the ability to face defeat again and again without giving up—to push on in the face of great difficulty, knowing that victory can be yours. Persistence means taking pains to overcome every obstacle, and to do what's necessary to reach your goals.” Wynn Davis.

This quote by Wynn Davis is one of my favorite of all time, and one I keep repeating to myself whenever I am trying to meet a challenge or overcome an obstacle. I think it is a really great quote for people who are trying to quit smoking. Most people do not successfully quit smoking on their first attempt. A recent study done by the American Lung Association showed that 6 ot of 10 former smokers were not able to quit smoking on their first attempt. They required multiple attempts to finally quit smoking for good.

The important message is that you should not feel alone if you are struggling to quit smoking and you definite should not give up. Leave no stone unturned in your attempt to quit smoking. You may have not quit smoking yet but your next attempt may be your successful attempt. No attempt to quit smoking is truly a failed attempt; each time you learn a little more about yourself and you learn what works and what doesn't. You learn your "triggers"; the situations that cause you to quit smoking again and you learn to avoid those situations as much as possible.

Maybe you have gone it alone to this point, you tried quitting "cold turkey." Look into smoking cessation assistance in your next attempt: nicotine patches or gum, support groups, smoking cessation medications, hypnosis. All are viable alternatives to boost your chances of success.

I can speak from personal experience. I honestly cannot even tell you how many times I tried to quit smoking. I would go anywhere from an hour to a day to a week; but always fell back into old habits. But I did one single thing right...I persisted. Even as I made my final attempt, I told myself: "This will just be another failed attempt Trevor, you know yourself, you know you always give in again to temptation." But something magical happened; the days turned into weeks, the weeks turned into months. Guess what? The months turned into years; the miracle happened for me...it can happen for you too. All I did was keep trying.

Remember: "The Night is Always Darkest Before the Dawn." If you are feeling hopeless and helpless in your attempt to stop smoking, never give up and always believe in yourself. Be persistent...a great power lies within you. A non-smoker lives within you. Keep trying and never stop trying to quit smoking!

Quitting Smoking and...Sunflower Seeds?

How could quitting smoking and sunflower seeds possibly go together???

One of my best friends in my efforts to quit smoking was...sunflower seeds. Why? Well...i think one of the hardest things for me when I was trying to quit smoking was getting over the habit of putting my hand to my mouth. I always was kind of a "nervous chewer." Even as a kid I chewed my finger nails, pen caps, gum...whatever. I believe that was part of the reason I became a smoker, the whole smoking thing tied in with that kind of "oral fixation" I had. So when I quit I didn't only have to get over the whole nicotine addiction thing, I had to find something other than a cigarette to put in my mouth. I didn't know what to do with my hands.

So whenever I was outside, or alone in my car, or in my house and I got the urge to smoke I would pop some sunflower seeds. The most effective sunflower seeds for me were the kind that were in their shells, not the unshelled ones. The ones in their shells really keep you busy cracking the shells and spitting them out. Plus it really is like smoking in that you put your hand to your mouth to put the seeds in your mouth and to take the shells out.

Not everyone is a fan of sunflower seeds, and eating sunflower seeds is not appropriate in every situation. A lot of people thought I had taken up chewing tobacco when they would see me with a "cheek full of seeds"...ha! But if you are trying to quit smoking and you need something to munch on to keep you busy...try sunflower seeds. Not only are they great at replacing the hand to mouth habit of smoking, they are a lot more healthy than a lot of other things that people binge on when they are trying to quit smoking.

Actually sunflower seeds kind of replaced my smoking habit. To this day I still chew sunflower seeds when I am on a long car trip or hanging around outside. But, hey...I would much rather be a seed chewer than a smoker. And now at least I have something to do with my hands.

Electronic Cigarettes-Are They Really a Good Idea?

I see a lot of sites on the Internet offering electronic cigarettes as a method to quit smoking. I don't know; to me it seems a lot like kissing your cousin. I mean, you are still kissing but it just doesn't pack the punch. Or maybe like drinking a non-alcoholic beer. It tastes like a beer, but it just isn't the same.

The dude to left here looks cool and all but it just seems kind of foolish to me. Why fart around? If you are ready to quit smoking then quit smoking. I don't know about you but if I walked around with this goofy thing hanging out of my mouth I would eventually say "screw this I want a REAL cigarette!"

Some of these puppies run as high as $200 bucks. Heck, that kind of eliminates the financial motivation to quit smoking. Look, if you have managed to quit smoking using one of these things I mean no offense. If it does the trick then I am all for it. I am just personally of the belief that these things just prolong the desire to keep smoking and the best way to quit smoking is to QUIT SMOKING!
